BOAT Insurance

Carriage Insurance will help make your boating season an enjoyable one .  We want to make it worry free allowing you to be on the water having fun knowing you have the right protection.  Smaller watercraft are often covered by homeowners or renters insurance, but when the appeal of the open seas lands you a larger boat, you’ll need to purchase a separate personal watercraft policy.  An average boat costs less than a dollar a day to insure.   Do you know what to look for in a watercraft insurance policy?   Our agents at Carriage Insurance have years of experience working with clients and insurance carriers putting together a high quality insurance policy for you and your watercraft.  Call our office at (330) 650-1948 today and consider the following items before you take your boat on the water in any of our great lakes in Ohio.

Navigational Area:
Know exactly where you are covered.  This can vary from insurance company to insurance company.   Talk with one of our licensed Carriage Insurance agents.

Agreed Value Coverage:
Your watercraft will depreciate just like an automobile.  If you are insuring your boat for Actual Cash Value it will make replacing a boat stolen or destroyed difficult.  Agreed Value means you will get the value you insured the boat, minus any deductible if a covered cause of loss occurs.

You are liable for an at-fault accident including the other boaters, so having enough liability coverage is important.  This coverage would pay for the replacement or repair of someone else’s property and medical care, lost wages and other costs as a result of an at-fault accident.  Make sure you work with a professional agent to have the right limit of insurance.

Medical Payments:
A medical payment coverage is similar to your automobile medical payments coverage.  It provides the medical payment coverage for the cost of care as needed when a boating accident occurs.  This coverage ranges from $500 to $10,000 and will cover you, your passengers on the boat, and even someone like a skier or water skier, regardless of who is at-fault.

Physical Damage Coverage:
You carry insurance for the physical damage to your boat.  Your deductible will apply, but this coverage pays for the repairs or replacement of your watercraft, motor, attached equipment and your trailer.   Make sure you thoroughly discuss all equipment with your insurance agent when purchasing this coverage.

Uninsured / Underinsured Watercraft Bodily Injury:
Many boaters choose not to get insured.  If you are hit by an uninsured or underinsured boater, and you are injured, this coverage will respond providing coverage for medical care and other costs associated with the accident.  Our insurance carriers include this coverage at a very minimal premium and we recommend our clients make sure they understand that some boaters may not be properly insured.

Fuel Spill Liability and Wreckage Removal:
If your boat has serious damage or sinks and a fuel leak occurs, this can be an expensive and time consuming process.  Make sure you have fuel spill liability and wreckage removal as a part of your policy.

Additional coverage can be purchased for trailers and other accessories, including boat covers, docking fenders and communication devices.  Call a Carriage Insurance agent today and we will make sure we provide all the answers for your watercraft coverage and peace of mind.
